🐾 Understanding the Difference: Dog Rescue vs. Humane Society vs. Dog Warden 🐾

Many people use these terms interchangeably, but they each serve very different roles in animal welfare. Understanding those differences can help you know who to contact when a dog is lost, abandoned, neglected, or in need of a new home.

🐶 Dog Rescue

A dog rescue is typically a nonprofit organization run by staff and volunteers dedicated to saving dogs from shelters, owner surrenders, neglect situations, or other at-risk circumstances. Rescues often place dogs in foster homes while they receive medical care, training, and socialization before being adopted into permanent homes.

Rescues focus on:

• Saving and rehabilitating dogs

Post your questions about routine vet care—vaccines, heartworm prevention, flea/tick, spay/neuter, or microchips. If you’re local to Sandusky/Ottawa/Seneca Counties, share what you’ve found helpful so others can compare options. Keep it respectful and focused on general guidance (no judgment). ⁉️ Did you know there are no income requirements or restrictions to the spay/neuter vouchers that the Sandusky County Humane Society provides??? Anyone is able to purchase a voucher (you can even purchase one and donate it toward one of our dogs needing spayed/neutered!!)

*There are 3 local vets that take the vouchers the Humane Society provides - but appointments can be very limited and/or out for an extended period (a few months out).

📣If you are in, or around, Fremont, OH and want a low cost option to get your dog spayed or neutered to help control the ongoing crisis of "too many dogs" on top of the health benefits it gives your dog - go visit the Humane Society to get your voucher (tell them we sent you!!)
